The Credit is Not All Mine, claims Jeakson Singh

After creating history by scoring the first ever ‘Indian’ goal in a World Cup, the India U-17 midfielder Jeakson Singh says that the credit is not just his own, but the whole team owns it.
The midfielder who had a wonderful night, not only with that goal remarked “great feeling,” on scoring the goal.
“I’m very happy and I would like to thank my teammates as because of them I got the opportunity to score.
“I only played my part. Just because I scored it doesn’t mean that I should get all the credit. It was a great feeling for me as well as for the entire team and country,” said the humble young man.
“I want to dedicate the goal to my parents. I talked to my mother and she was very proud of me. My father is unwell after having suffered a cardiac arrest but he knows that I’ve scored for India,” said the young boy from Manipur.
“I was very excited at that moment; in fact, we all were watching the fans scream. But we conceded immediately and it was quite a shattering feeling.”
“It was such a sweet and sour feeling for all of us. There were many who congratulated me. I was happy; we were all happy. But at the same time, it was so much of a disappointment as we couldn’t get a result which I feel we fully deserved,” he admitted that the team didn’t come away with any point from a game, which they truly deserved to win.
Jeakson jumped high to thump in a header from Sanjeev Stalin’s corner in the 82nd minute of the group game against Colombia to record an equaliser. Though India lost the game 1-2, the goal will be cherished by the Indian footballing fraternity for years to come.
Jeakson said that the team is “ready for the African challenge,” as they are preparing to face a mighty Ghana, tomorrow, in which a win might take them to the round of 16.
Ghana were considered the strongest in the group, but their recent performances have given faith and confidence to the team.
“We will play as per our plans. As a team we are prepared to fight it out. We played well against Colombia. We have fought hard and will do the same against Ghana,” he pronounced.
