Minerva host East Bengal in a do-or-die match for the Red and Gold Brigade

Minerva Punjab FC will host Quess East Bengal in an all-important I-League encounter at the Tau Devi Lal stadium in Panchkula tomorrow (03/03/2019). It is an all-important match with respect to the title race with the pressure on the visiting team to produce a win to stay in the title race. Anything less than a win will all but guarantee a maiden I-League trophy for league leaders Chennai City FC.
East Bengal are four points behind Chennai City in the league table, having played a match lesser. But coach Alejandro Menendez doesn’t want his players to brood over the possibility of a title and instead want his players to be focused for the match against Minerva. “The result (Chennai City’s defeat against Churchill Brothers) will be an added incentive for the players but we have to remain focused,” he said.
The East Bengal coach also stressed on the fact that his team will be playing their third I-League match in seven days and that his players and staff haven’t had an ideal time to prepare for the upcoming game. “I said this before the Real Kashmir match as well. 72 hours isn’t ample time to be ready for the next match. It is not good for us or the I-League.”
Minerva Punjab, who halted an 80-day winless run with a victory against Neroca FC in the previous Gameweek, will be hopeful of beating East Bengal in their home ground, after having won the reverse fixture 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Head coach Sachin Badadhe expressed confidence in his team’s chances and said the team will do everything secure all three points. “This is East Bengal’s third match in a week so their players will be tired. Also, we have been training nicely and are confident in ourselves.
The Red and Gold Brigade will be without the services of their star striker Jobby Justin who is serving a suspension for an incident during East Bengal’s match against Aizawl FC.
Match venue: Tau Devi Lal Stadium (Panchkula)Kick-off time: 2 PM
