I-League: Chennai City ready for Churchill Brothers’ challenge

Chennai City FC

Akbar Nawas’s Chennai City FC are off to flying start in Hero I League 2018-19 but they will face a big test of their credentials when they face Churchill Brothers at JN stadium, Coimbatore on Thursday.

Against Indian Arrows, Chennai City got off to a dream start winning 4-1. Against Churchill Brothers, the southerners will look to mount on their winning start.

“We try to enter each game with intension to win. It’s important to win but for my players, I tell them to play our way and then we’ll see after 90′ mins. I’m more concerned about the way we play. It’s not the result that I prioritize ”

Chennai City FC defeated Churchill Brothers conveniently in both matches last season. When asked if the squad gets extra confidence out of it, he said “Its a fresh game. It’s a different opponent. We have to give respect to Churchill ”

Having made a host of changes to their squad this summer, Chennai City FC will be delighted with the performance of the spaniards in their first match.

Akbar Nawas would be particularly pleased with the form of their lead striker Pedro Javier Manzi after the spanish star scored to fluent hat-trick.

Another partnership that has worked well for Chennai City FC is of Edwin Sydney and Alexander Romario. The duo were a serious threat in flanks and Akbar Nawas would want that to continue against Churchill Brothers on Thursday.

However, Akbar Nawas will look to get the first cleansheet of the season agaisnt Churchill Brothers. Chennai City’s back four Edwin Sydney, Eslava, Tarif Akhand and Ajith kumar looked comfortable with the ball but failed to keep cleansheet as they conceded in just 2 mins.

Churchill Brothers are coming after a goalless draw against Minerva Punjab in their opening game. Against Minerva, Churchill had many chances to score. Especially the miss from Uttam Rai from 5 yards. Peter Gigiu will look to improve on that aspect.

” We have a new team. We need sometime to get unity and understanding among the squad. After 3,4 games, we’ll get into our zone completely ”

“I saw CCFC last match, they were a very good team. I hope for a nice game tomorrow ”

The last time these two teams met in the same fixture, the final score line read 3-1.
