A hattrick from Pedro Manzi gave Chennai City FC their first win of the season as a come back from 0-1 to 4-1 against the Indian Arrows. Striker Pedro Manzi’s valiant hatrick was enough for the team from Coimbatore to confirm their 3 points against an young Indian Arrows side.
Indian Arrows couldn’t have asked for a better start when in just the 2nd minute Chennai City goalkeeper Kabir failed to grab Rahul KP’s cross through the right wing. Arrows’ captain Amarjit Singh was on right place at right time to make most of it and give the travelling side a very early lead.
Despite the early setback, Chennai City players held the nerves and were rewarded with an equalizer from Manzi in the 32nd minute. The half time score read 1-1 with both the team fighting to get control of the game.
Chennai City FC started strong in the second half. They were right on money since the start whistle and played in a well organized style of play. It didn’t take a lot of time for the Manzi to score his second goal to give Chennai City a 2-1 lead. Manzi went on to complete his hatrick with a spot kick as the scoreline read 3-1. Romario added spice to the game by scoring fourth and final goal of the game.
We were not competitive enough in the first half. Starting nerves affected the players and they conceded an early game. But we spoke in the half time about the mistakes we did and boys played better in the second half ”
When asked to Hero of the match Manzi about his performance, the Spaniard spoke, ” I didn’t expect such a performance from myself obviously. But I’m happy that I did now ” Earlier, Indian Arrows coach Floyd pinto acknowledged the quality of the foreign recruits of CCFC.
” We were in the game till 2-1. Obviously the quality of the foreigners in CCFC were great. The difference between us and CCFC were their foreigners. We played with intensity throughout the 90 minutes. We look forward to improve ourselves in the coming game ”
