Catching up with Young Talents – Manvir Singh

By Sravan

Indian football has had many footballers from Punjab and there is no doubt it has produced wonderful players till date for the nation. One such talent is Manvir Singh hailing from Nawanshahr Doaba district of Punjab. GoalBold had the chance to have a chat with one of the promising football talents in Indian football right now, who is plying his trade for Ozone Football Club based in Bengaluru.

Manvir Singh played in U-18 Youth League 2017-18 representing Ozone Football Club and ended the league as the top goal scorer of the season with 14 goals to his name in 13 appearances. Let’s have a look at how he started his footballing career and how he ended up in Bengaluru as he speaks.

WHEN AND HOW DID YOUR FOOTBALL CAREER START?

I remember those days very well. When my father used to work on the ground and there was a hidden desire within me to become a professional player which was the only dream of my father. I had a really strong conviction to make that dream into reality and here I am. I want to achieve more, reach greater heights and make my father proud.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOURSELF IN COMING YEARS?

I want to improve my skills by putting some humungous effort on the field. I had good U-18 Youth League with more goals and just want to do the same in a bigger stage at the senior level. My dream has been always to represent the national side. I just want to lead the nation one day and also to bag the World Cup for my Country and make us proud.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR TIME AT C.F.A?

Well, it was really like a roller coaster ride for me, as I underwent a greater change during my time at CFA. Our respectful coach Mr. Sandeep Singh helped us a lot in everything and I was glad to be coached under him and personally feel that I was able to explore best out of me during my days at CFA. He is one of the reasons why I am here.

SHARE SOME OF YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH OZONE FC IN U-18 YOUTH LEAGUE 2017-18.

I would say that we played like a family together throughout the season. It helped me a lot in terms of playing as a team. Each and every member of the side were like a family member and contributed their part for the team which is always crucial for any team. I was glad to play with them and happy that I contributed with goals. In the end, it was a great season for us.

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT FINISHING AS THE TOP SCORER IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.

It was an awesome feeling to be named as the top goal scorer of the season. But unfortunately, we couldn’t grab the title for us. Being top scorer of the league would have not been possible without the co-operation from the players. There was a huge support from my team members which made this possible in the end. I have got nothing but to thank everyone because all credits go to each and every member of the team.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHAT MADE YOU PLAY FOOTBALL IN ATTACKING POSITIONS?

My dad is my only role model. I am so blessed to have him by my side as only few will get the opportunity to have his/her idol with them. He guided me in everything I did and took part in each and every step I took in my life. I am here today it’s solely because of my father. Whenever I was struck in something and clueless, he was there for me and was an influential guide for me.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WENT WRONG FOR OZONE FC IN U-18 YOUTH LEAGUE 2017-18?

We had a good experience at the Youth league 2017-18. Especially learned a lot with this and we have to move on. But, we have to learn from our mistakes. We lost our way at the end and some decisions made by the referees were not right too. As they say, “Every rose has its thorn and there is a day after the night which we have to face every day.” Likewise, we had some bad luck and we lost some crucial games. We have to learn positives from the negatives and those matches paved us a way for improvement.

SHARE SOME OF YOUR EXPERIENCE FROM NIKE PREMIER CUP.

I am really fortunate that I bestowed this opportunity twice. I played my first tournament with Minerva Punjab FC and later represented Ozone FC. It was an unforgettable tournament with Minerva Punjab. I felt highly exuberant after the tourney as I was the top scorer and as a team, we tasted triumph. I was blessed to play this tournament again with Ozone FC again and win the cup.
