A FIR filled against the viral issue

Chennai city police filed FIR on Saturday after a video of men purportedly harassing female fans of the North East United Football Club went viral on the social media. FIR was filed under the Tamil Nadu, Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

The incident took place at the Marina Arena when Chennaiyin FC played against Northeast United FC last Thursday. The away fans who came all the way from Northeast to support their home side were harassed by a drunken guy. This was recorded and went viral in the social media.

After seeing this video, Northeast United Owner, John Abraham released a official statement regarding the harassment, stating, “To the fans who troubled her, I will call you fake fans because I know that Abhishek or myself would never condone this behaviour from our own true fans. I will find you and make sure you are punished and apologise for your behaviour.”

After a complaint from Chennaiyin FC representative Krishnadeep Menon’s complaint to the Perimet Police station, FIR was registered on the unidentified individuals. Since the faces were not clear in the video, police sought public help by releasing the individuals picture.
